Myken First 10 Years
Myken First 10 Years, 10 YO, 47%
This is a major milestone for the budding Norwegian whisky industry; the release of the very first 10 year old Norwegian single malt whisky.
This is a small batch release, matured in two 200L 1st fill ex-bourbon barrels from Makers Mark, casks 15/001 (filled 2015-01-31) and 15/008 (filled 2015-05-25). These were casks two and nine filled at the distillery. A total of 565 bottles were released. More details on the official product page.
It is sadly already sold out. But expect a new limited batch of the 10 YO in a few months.
Nose: Light, clean and instantly appealing. Fresh malted barley leads the way, accompanied by gentle waves of vanilla and soft tropical fruits. With time, subtle hints of pencil shavings, creamy fudge, roasted almonds and a citrusy lift emerge.
Taste: Medium to full-bodied. A drier delivery than expected, with restrained sweetness. The malty and fruity character remains, but now joined by a more assertive oak influence.
Finish: Medium long. Soft pepperiness and a touch of sea salt add texture, ending on a note of camphor and coconut.
Comment: Quietly complex.
