This is a release in the Cooper’s Choice series from The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. The Miltonduff 2007 13 YO Imperial Milk Stout Finish was distilled June 2007, and bottled 2020. It was initially matured in an American oak cask and then finished for 13 months in what was originally a Bruichladdich cask, then held a milk stout from Spey Valley Brewery and finally it was used to finish this whisky (cask #9087).

The beer that was used in the cask was released as Spey Valley 5.SVB.23.A6 Supernova Islay Cask.

Nose: Milk chocolate is what strikes me at first. Well it doesn’t really strike as much as caress my nose. Then a wave of green and fruity notes, as well as a rich maltiness. With time also a soft oakiness. I also find a dustiness here which I normally associate with much older whiskies. Also honey.

Taste: Full bodied and spicy delivery. It packs an initial punch that feels citrus-y and acidic without quite being just that. It also feels very spicy, again without quite being that either. It is big on flavour though, aromatic with a definitive zing to it.

Finish: Medium long finish. Remains fairly spicy throughout. Assorted summer fruits on the finish. Green grass, tomato plant, and also creamy vanilla. Creamy vanilla and caramel sauce. Mint chocolate in the end.

Comment: Wow, what an unusual Miltonduff. Yet the rock solid base that is Miltonduff is still here. Love it!

Score 88/100
