This is a release from independent bottler Murray McDavid. The Loch Lomond 1996 22 YO Single Grain was distilled in 1996, matured in a bourbon hogshead, then finished in a 1st fill Armagnac cask (cask #182963). It was bottled in 2019, and the total outturn was 314 bottles.

The Loch Lomond 1996 22 YO Single Grain will be available to buy in Norway on August 27 at NOK 1495 (12066201).

Nose: White pepper and honey. Soft oakiness. Hints of dried fruits. With time there’s also added apples and pears.

Taste: Rich and full bodied. Dried fruits with a sprinkling of grapefruit. Woody-ish. Red berries, dried fruits, and mixed spices.

Finish: Medium to long finish. More spices now, including pepper. I also pick up heather honey. It comes across as prickly and deeply sweet. Grandma’s camphor hard candy in the end.

Comment: An unusual one from the many headed troll that is Loch Lomond. I use the term “troll” endearingly here.

Score 87/100
