This “golf whisky” was matured in American oak casks, distilled December 2007 and bottled in June 2020. The Loch Lomond 12 YO The Open Special Edition 2020 is limited to 3000 bottles.

This is of course a whisky from the Loch Lomond Distillery. We can read the following from the official blurb on this release:

“This exclusive bottling marks the first time in over 80 years that the Open Championship has been cancelled. It is also a first from Loch Lomond where all the spirit comes from our unique straight neck pot still using a Chardonnay yeast fermentation. The Chardonnay yeast adds a lively, almost effervescent mouthfeel, with additional fruit characteristics like grapefruit and tart green apples with a finish of powdery sherbert and lime juice. We look forward to 2021 when this iconic championship will return.”

For those not in the know, The Open or The Open Championship or The British Open refers to a golf championship. It was cancelled in 2020, and will be held next at The Royal St. George’s Golf Club in July 2021.

You can buy the Loch Lomond 12 YO The Open Special Edition 2020 in Norway at NOK 850 (12440001), and in the UK at around GBP 50.

Nose: Fresh, green apples, honey and icing sugar. Soft notes of citrus. Mild maltiness. With time more and more green - tomato plant and green herbs.

Taste: Medium body and sweetness. Apples and citrus (zest mainly), as well as honey and milk chocolate. Cut grass.

Finish: Medium long finish. Greener still. It remains freshly fruity. Ginger and cinnamon as well now. Milka milk chocolate.
