This is a whisky from independent bottler van Wees, in their The Ultimate - Cask Strength series. The Ledaig 2009 7 YO Cask #700360 was distilled on 2009-04-06, and bottled 2016-12-06. It was matured in a single hogshead (cask #700360), and the total outturn was 304 bottles.

I tasted this whisky blind and had a rather tough time of it. All my notes below are unedited after the whisky was revealed to me. I guessed it to be around 8-10 YO, with an ABV of 56+ %. I found it to be very peaty, but not medicinal. That ruled out Islay with the exception of Bruichladdich. I also guess a 2nd fill bourbon cask. Not all that far off mark perhaps, but I had no idea what distillery this was.

Nose: Quite peaty up front - and a hint of alcohol sting. Summer fruits. White sugar sweetness. Well worn leather. Ginger and vanilla. Malty with a touch of greenery in the background. With time I also pick up maritime notes and a soft minerality.

Taste: Rich and full bodied. Lots of peppery and sugary ashes. Dry. Ginger, cut grass. It has a brutal delivery.

Finish: Medium to short finish. Even drier now - desert walkabout dry. Minty chewing gum in the end.

Comment: A dry experience.

Score 83/100

PS! Thanks to Frode N. for the sample!
