Laphroaig Càirdeas 2022 Warehouse 1

Laphroaig Càirdeas 2022 Warehouse 1, NAS, 52.2 %

Matured in 1st fill ex-Maker’s Mark bourbon barrels. I like the fact that Laphroaig have stuck with the concept of having the last two digits in the ABV signify the year of the Càirdeas release; in this case 52.2 % give 22.

The can be purchased directly from Laphroaig online at around € 71.

Nose: Ooh, this is classic Laphroaig. Medicinal notes of iodine mixed with driftwood bonfire on the beach, a fresh sea breeze and creamy vanilla. Tropical fruits, malt and mild oakiness with time.

Taste: Medium body, which is a bit surprising given the high ABV. Marshmallows, honey, white pepper, malt and medicinal smokiness. It feels a little watery, which again is a bit odd.

Finish: Medium to short finish. More pepper, more peat smoke as well as drier notes of soot and coal. Beneath this there are traces of tropical fruits and honey. Rather oaky in the end.

Comment: Confused now.
