Laphroaig Brodir Batch 002, NAS, 48 %

Laphroaig Brodir Batch 002I never got around to tasting the first batch of Brodir, but now the time has come to taste the follow-up at least. So the Laphroaig Brodir Batch 002 is a European Travel Exclusive. It is a No Age Statement (NAS) expression, like many others, fro Laphroaig. Now I know a lot of whisky lovers out there get their panties in a bunch when they hear NAS, but please - always give the whisky the benefit of the doubt. After all, if it tastes good, and you feel the price is at least somewhat reasonable, then what's not to like? Enjoy the whisky, not just the facts.

Anyways, the Laphroaig Brodir Batch 002 is matured in ex-bourbon barrels, then received a finish in Ruby Port casks. A bit similar to the Laphroaig Cairdeas 2013 then.

You can buy the Laprhoaig Brodir Batch 002 at around GBP 95.

Nose: Sweet and earthy. This is an Autumn whisky. Red berries, apples, mustard seeds, wood smoke and wet stones. I do enjoy the tempered, fruity sweetness on this whisky.

Taste: Notes of sweet wine. Grapes, vanilla, dark chocolate, citrus and wood smoke. It also has a darker side, the earthiness from the nose. Wet dirt and fallen leaves. Stony fresh water beach.

Finish: Medium long finish. Sweet and now a little oaky. The oakiness manifests as fresh oak and wet planks. The sweetness is now more towards caramel and fudge, with a smoky layer.

Comments: Enjoyable, elegant, earthy episode.

Score (86/100)
