Laphroaig 2005 8 YO Provenance Douglas Laing, 46 %

Laphroaig 2005 8 YO Provenance Douglas LaingA young Laphroaig...that must be interesting! I have tasted a few young ones before, and I have found them to be very nice and rich.

I guess Laphroaig is one of my favorite distilleries. Well, it is actually difficult to promote some distilleries as 'favorites' since I have come to love so many of them. But let me put it another way: I have tasted 35 different Laphroaigs and my average score for these is 90.

Laphroaig 2005 8 YO from Douglas Laing and their Provenance series was distilled Autumn 2005 and bottled Spring 2014. It was matured in a refill hogshead cask #10294.

The whisky is available in Norway at NOK 800,- (item number 1723601).

Nose (23/25): Smoke and peat and wow! Really a young and raw one!

Taste (23/25): At first I thought the taste was a bit watery, but that was just the very first sip. From the second sip that watery feeling was replaced by warm smoke, really delicious and delicate. A lot of licorice with a hint of citrus.

Finish (23/25): Quite dry in the end. Light, salty, oily, warm and tickling. Ash, smoke and citrus. Did I say warm? Yes, a really nice finish, surprisingly full and long for such a young whisky.

Balance (23/25): To me this is a naked and honest, young Laphroaig. Nothing fancy, just plain and raw. I love it!

Score (92/100)
