Kinglake French Oak Single Malt

Kinglake French Oak Single Malt, 3 YO, 46 %

This is a fairly new new edition from Australian distillery Kinglake. A whisky aged full-term in ex-tawny port French oak barrels.

The Kinglake French Oak Single Malt is available in Australia at AUS 80 (50 cl)

Nose: Similar fluffy clouds of sweet goodies as for the Kinglake OG expression. With time it turns more sweet, and more complex. Orchard fruits. Banana chocolate. Wine like notes as well as a hint of rhubarb.

Taste: Smooth and full bodied. Again, like the OG, I’m initially hit with mild spiciness in the form of white pepper, as well as moderate fruitiness.

Finish: Medium long finish. Definitely more dry than the OG. And yet, sweeter, fruitier and lighter on the finish. Grape juice and honey dew melon. The peppery notes remain all the way, accompanied by notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. Some oaky astringency in the end.

Comment: This is rather fine, actually.

Score 84/100
