Highland Park 1990 26 YO LMDW Cellar Book, 45 %

Highland Park 1990 26 YO LMDW Cellar BookI am working my way through a few exclusive bottlings for La Maison du Whisky (LMdW). A few days ago I reviewed this Edradour. Today I am taking a closer look at the Highland Park 1990 26 YO LMDW Cellar Book. This is an independent bottling by Signatory.

The Highland Park 1990 26 YO LMDW Cellar Book was distilled on 1990-12-03, matured in a refill sherry butt (cask #15705), and bottled on 2017-08-28. The total outturn was 308 bottles.

Nose: We have been invited to the official opening of the new saw mill. Oak chips fly through the air and wet saw dust covers the floor. Freshly cut planks of oak surround us. Glasses of various sherries and liqueurs are passed around. Outside someone has started a bonfire, big logs are burning brightly and there's a few heather plants throw in for for good measure. Hot marshmallows are devoured as a side dish to ice cream with a generous helping of heather honey. The ice cream keeps on coming.

Taste: Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. White pepper, vanilla and mild toffee. A touch of ashes and wood smoke. Ginger and nuts.

Finish: Long finish. Fizzy ginger soda now and dark chocolate. More nuts, more caramel, and more honey. A touch of burnt toast with bitter orange marmalade spread. Whatever happened to the ice cream? Oh well, it is still delicious.

Comments: A complex and entertaining nose, and it follows up with a rich symphony of flavors.

Score (89/100)
