Glengoyne 25 YO, 48 %

Glengoyne 25 YOA few months ago Glengoyne Distillery launched a new whisky in their core range, the Glengoyne 25 YO. It has been matured in sherry casks, and is bottled at a very nice 48 % ABV. The sherry casks used are 50 % 1st fill casks, and 50 % refill casks.

Glengoyne is a Highland distillery, founded in 1833. At first it was named Burnfoot Distillery, but this was changed a few decades later. Burnfoot is now the name for a no-age statement Glengoyne whisky for Travel Retail.

The Glengoyne 25 YO is available to buy in Norway at NOK 2025 (item number 1696501), and in Sweden at SEK 2499 (item number 40005). It does appear to be sold out in Sweden at the moment, which seems a bit odd.

Nose (23/25): This is what I would consider a sherry bomb, and I mean this as a very positive thing. This is a sherry matured whisky as it should be. Dark fruits, leather, and a myriad spices that make me think of Christmas. It is a lovely nose.

Taste (22/25): Matches the nose perfectly, with lots of sherry influence. It is rich and sweet. The many spices are here as well, but it is cinnamon that takes the lead. The oak influence builds quickly, and just as it is on the verge of becoming a bit too much, it steps back and mellows out.

Finish (23/25): Warm and lingering. The full Christmas spice mix is back, wave after wave.

Balance (22/25): A truly great sherry matured whisky. Perfect for dessert - in fact, skip dessert and enjoy a dram of this instead.

Score (90/100)
