Glengoyn 21 YO

Let us go back to Glengoyne Distillery and try another sherry matured whisky. If you like sherry matured whisky, Glengoyne is usually a very safe bet. Especially if you go for the expressions matured for 18 years or more. The Glengoyne 21 YO has been part of their core range for a while, and is a lovely whisky I keep coming back to.

The price is not bad at all for a 21 YO, although there is an unusually large price difference between Norway at NOK 1300 (item number 9574701) and Sweden at SEK 939 (item number 20488).

Nose (24/25): Fantastic sherry notes. This is very close to a perfect sherry nose, in fact! Cinnamon and other "Christmas spices", pears, peaches, caramel, a hint of licorice. This is one of those rare gems that just keeps developing in the glass, just brings a smile to my face nosing this whisky.

Taste (22/25): Where the nose was just all encompassing in it's sherry loveliness, the palate is more stringent, clearly defined, and clean. Christmas spices, dried fruits and sherry sweetness.

Finish (21/25): Slightly dry, some mild oakiness. Caramel and dried fruits. Medium length and warmth.

Balance (22/25): A great dram, which does not fully live up to the stunning nose. All in all a very nice experience.

Score (89/100)
