Glengoyne 1995 18 YO Cask #1470 Distillery ExclusiveA good sherry matured whisky can be something really special indeed. Some distilleries do excel in consistently bringing out great sherry matured whiskies; including Glenfarclas, Glen Grant, GlenDronach and Glengoyne. Lots of glens!

I visited Glengoyne Distillery recently, and got the chance to try the different distillery exclusives they had on offer. One of these whiskies was the Glengoyne 1995 18 YO Cask #1470 Distillery Exclusive. This whisky was distilled 1995-07-10, and bottled 2013-08-01. The total outturn was 259 bottles from this refill sherry hogshead, bottled exclusively for the Glengoyne Distillery shop.

You might still find this whisky available at around GBP 150, although I believe the distillery shop was sold out.

Nose (22/25): Light and mild at first sniff. It certainly is a sweet and delicate whisky. I find coconut, pineapple, cinnamon, almonds, and dried fruits. A fine sherry nose of the lighter kind, not a heavy sherry bomb.

Taste (22/25): Rich and creamy on the palate. A full bodied dram. Honey, white pepper, and mild caramel. Some sherry influence, but not as pronounced as on the nose.

Finish (23/25): A bit drier at first, then lighter and sweeter. More dried fruits and genera sherry notes on the finish, with a tempered sweetness. I thoroughly enjoyed this long and soft 'landing'.

Balance (22/25): A delicate and sweet dram. Yes, please!

Score (89/100)
