I last tasted the Glenglassaugh Evolution back in 2013. Back then I found it to be a bit too young and unbalanced. Since then I have mistakenly believed that the current Glenglassaugh Evolution is the same as the “old” Glenglassaugh Evolution. This turned out to be far from the truth. The “old” version was 3-4 years old, the current one is 7-9 years old. It is still matured exclusively in ex-Tennessee casks, although in the beginning they used George Dickel casks, and they have since switched to Jack Daniels casks.

The Glenglassaugh Evolution is available to buy in Norway at NOK 700 (1473701), in Sweden at SEK 619 (85580), and in the UK at around GBP 42.

Nose: Deeply sweet notes of vanilla and butterscotch. Fizzy and fresh ginger. More and more vanilla with time - marshmallows and cotton candy.

Taste: Full bodied. Rich and sweet. Very much a pure bred bourbon matured whisky. White pepper. Sparkling and fresh.

Finish: Medium long finish. White pepper and also milk chocolate now. Pinch of salt and fizzy ginger in the end - with a hint of mint.

Comment: Way better than the earlier version I tried back in 2013.

Score: 84/100
