Glen Moray 1991 22 YO Svenska Eldvatten, 57,5 %

Glen Moray 1991 22 YO Svenska EldvattenSvenska Eldvatten is a young and very promising Independent Bottler, located in Gothenburg, Sweden. They have already released about 30 single cask single malts, and some stunning single cask rums. We have now tried their Glen Moray 1991 22 YO.

This whisky was matured in a hogshead, distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2013. The total outturn was 270 bottles.

Unfortunately this whisky is now sold out. You might think it is a bit cruel to review a whisky that is sold out, but we believe there is still some value to that. It will give you an idea of what we think of Glen Moray, although a single cask release could be non-typical for a distillery. It could also give you an indication on the quality of bottlings from Svenska Eldvatten.  Finally it could also so happen that you come across a bottle of this whisky in a bar, and curious to try new whiskies you embrace the opportunity.

[2014-09-15] Update! I was too quick in my research. This is whisky is still available to buy in Norway at NOK 1350 (item number 776001). That is a rather decent price, as well.

Anyways, here we go...

Nose (22/25): Soft wisps of licorice, appealing sweetness, vanilla, apples and ripe pears. In time I do pick up some milk chocolate and mild oakiness as well.

Taste (22/25): Soft and creamy. Rich and soft mouth-feel. Ginger, honey and cracked black peppercorns.

Finish (21/25): More ginger now, with creamy caramel and a fizzy feel. It is warmish and has a medium long finish. Ginger beer.

Balance (22/25): I quite like the creaminess of this whisky.

Score (87/100)
