Eiregold Irish Whiskey

Eiregold Irish Whiskey, 4 YO, 40 %

This is a new blended whisky from Hyde Irish Whiskey / Hibernia Distillers.

The Eiregold is composed bourbon cask matured single grain (80 %) and single malt Irish whiskey (20 %).

From what I know it is soon to be released internationally. It has limited availability in Norway already and sells at NOK 495 (12392101). Contact the importer Daracha for ordering details.

Nose: Coffee and slightly burnt caramel. Warm and earthy. Dusty cinnamon sticks. Dark chocolate. Rather more dark than expected, and I like that. Especially this time of year. With time a little green as well.

Taste: Again I’m caught off guard. This dram is richer and more creamy than the triple distillation, 40 % ABV and assumed young age would suggest. Not all that sweet. It is the darker notes of dry-ish dark chocolate, coffee, black pepper and dusty cinnamon sticks that dominate.

Finish: Medium long finish. Drier still and the green touch from the nose is back. Vanilla and toasted oak in the end.

Comment: A surprise, and a nice one at that.
