Another bottling from Diageo’s Special Releases 2020 coming up. The Dalwhinnie 30 YO was distilled in 1989, and matured in refill American oak hogsheads. This release is limited to 6978 bottles.

I am a big fan of the regular Dalwhinnie 15 YO, with its complex and delicate fruity and floral notes, and was very curious as to how that would translate into a 30 YO from the same distillery.

You can buy the Dalwhinnie 30 YO (Special Releases 2020) in Norway starting this Friday at NOK 6000 (12315101). You can also get it in the UK at around GBP 550.

Nose: Softly floral and delicate - as expected from a proper Dalwhinnie. Orchard fruits in the background. Sun warmed oak planks. A sprinkling of nutmeg and cocoa nibs.

Taste: Super smooth and big. Deep and vibrant notes of ripe orchard fruits. Rich, floral honey with a hint of a bitter-ish sting to it.

Finish: Long finish. Still rich, fruity, floral, sticky honey. Towards the end it transmogrifies into something even fresher, more alive, and quintessentially summer.

Comment: Wow! Summer in a glass!
