..aaand here is my final review of the Casks of Scotland series from independent bottler A. D. Rattray. The Cask Orkney 18 YO has been matured in bourbon casks. You can read up on the official product page. There are only two whisky distilleries on Orkney; Scapa and Highland Park, and the producer does not disclose from which one this single malt derives from.

You can buy the Cask Orkney 18 YO in Norway at NOK 1119 (10659101).

Nose: Oooh, soft, swirling notes of honey, baked apples, vanilla, cinnamon, sea salt , caramel and a whiff of smoke. Fine oak casks have added a gentle touch as well.

Taste: Medium body and sweetness. Pepper, heather honey, grass, nuts, cinnamon and dry wood smoke.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Drier still. The pepper fades away and more green notes come to the fore. A pinch of salt. Nuts.

Comment: A very well balanced dram. This has to be a Highland Park, and a fine one at that. Gentler than the original 18 YO, but on par quality wise.

Score 88/100
