Here is a very old, independent bottling of Bunnahabhain single malt whisky. The bottler is Elixir Distillers, and the product in question is the Bunnahabhain 44 YO Director's Special.

Distilled in 1975 and fully matured in a refill sherry butt. It was bottled in 2020, with a total outturn of 492 bottles.

You can buy the Bunnahabhain 44 YO Director's Special in the UK at around GBP 1300.

Nose: Memories of a dusty attic, with an open window looking out over Bunnahabhain Bay. A light maritime is mixed with a green touch. Light fruitiness and vanilla. With time more fruity - tropical fruits. Lime zest, grilled oranges, pineapple juice.

Taste: Very rich and full bodied. Very fruity now - I would even say intensely so. But I am not complaining. In the background fresh ginger and white pepper, as well as a pinch of salt.

Finish: Long finish. Light and delicate all the way. The sweet, light fruitiness is delightful.

Comment: This right here is why I love old Bunnahabhain. Too bad about the price - but that is the way it is nowadays.

Score 94/100
