Bimber Apogee XII Pure Malt Whisky

Bimber Apogee XII Pure Malt Whisky, 12 YO, 46.3 %

This is a blended malt, but the label says “Pure Malt Whisky”. So that’s not quite kosher according to SWA, but as this product is released by an English distillery, Bimber in London, they can get away with it. The component whiskies are all Scotch though. Here is what they say over at Bimber’s website:

“We sourced some of the finest single malt whiskies from both the Highlands and Speyside. These whiskies were matured for a minimum of 12 years before being enhanced further through skilful, meticulous blending and an additional maturation in ex-bourbon casks that were previously used to age Bimber’s award-winning London single malt whisky.”

A few bottles of the Bimber Apogee XII Pure Malt Whisky are for sale in Norway at NOK 900 (13552101).

Nose: A light and fruity nose. Soft maltiness gives it body. With time a little floral perhaps. I also pick up on cinnamon and ginger. Where at first the fruitiness was mostly apples and pears there is also citrus with time.

Taste: Medium to light body. Mild spiciness - mainly white pepper and cinnamon - and a light fruitiness - again apples and pears - now also pineapple. Milk chocolate.

Finish: Medium long finish. Continues much as it started. Even lighter body now. Wet planks and a hint of mint in the end.

Comment: Fair enough, I say. They certainly know how to blend.
