Balblair Vintage 2005, 12 YO, 46 %

Balblair Vintage 2005 (2017)I am reviewing a Highland whisky today, the Balblair Vintage 2005. This is the release from 2017. Two previous versions have been released of the Balblair Vintage 2005. One in 2015 with "1st release" on the front label, and one in 2016. It would have been great fun to try them head-to-head.

The Balblair Vintage 2005 (2017) has been matured in bourbon barrels.

You can purchase the Balblair Vintage 2005 (2017) in Norway at NOK 800 (8299801), in Sweden at SEK 599 (8552901), and in the UK at around GBP 43.

Nose: Mild and approachable. A typical bourbon matured whisky, where the casks used are not all that active - I'm guessing 2nd or refill casks. There's tempered notes of vanilla, coconut, green apples, pears and white pepper.

Taste: Medium body and somewhat buttery mouthfeel. Quite spicy upfront. Lots of black and white pepper. Licorice and hints of ginger. Vanilla, runny honey and green apples. Certainly malty in character.

Finish: Medium long finish. Vanilla, light orchard fruits, honey, butter and hints of nuts.

Comments: A overall solid and robust dram.

Score (84/100)
