Balblair 2000, ~16 YO, 46 %
The Balblair 2000 Vintage, 2nd release, was bottled in 2017. It has been matured in American oak 1st fill ex-bourbon casks, and then received a 2 year finish in Oloroso sherry casks. Here is part of the official blurb:
"With influence from both American Oak and Spanish Oak, [..] Balblair 2000 2nd Release replaces the award winning 1999 3rd release."
Nose: Deep and rich, with dried fruits, vanilla and caramel pudding. Honey and a touch of leather. Lighter notes with time; I'm thinking strawberry ice cream.
Taste: Rich and of plentiful body. Spicy upfront; white pepper, chili oil, and cinnamon sticks. Buttery mouthfeel, with heaps of sweetness in the guise of caramel and honey. This is for the sweet of tooth.
Finish: Medium long finish. Still rich and fairly spicy. More fruity now though, apples and fried banana with mandarins on the side. A slightly burnt edge to the caramel notes. Honey at the end.
Comments: A dram to enjoy.
