Akashi Single Malt

Akashi Single Malt, 5 YO, 46 %

akashi-single-malt.jpg

This is a single malt Japanese whisky from White Oak Distillery. It is a proper Japanese whisky according to the new rules; there is no imported whisky in the mix here.

The Akashi Single Malt has been matured for an initial three years in hogsheads, and then finished for two years in Spanish oak sherry casks.

You can buy the Akashi Single Malt in Norway at NOK 989 (50 cl) (1818402).

Nose: More dry, bitter and oaky than the Akashi Blended Whisky. Citrus and orchard fruits. With time it does show of more complexity and depth than the blend.

Taste: Medium to full body - so a BMI around 25. Well rounded and balanced - in other words it feels “Japanese”. Honey glazed ripe apples served with a glass of fresh lime water. Vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce.

Finish: Medium long finish. Some oakiness now. A bit drier in style. Still sweet, still balanced and harmonious. Hints of herbs and spices.

Comment: This is elegant.
