Aerolite Lyndsay 10 YO, 46 %

This is a single malt from an undisclosed Islay distillery. The rather mysterious name is actually an anagram of “Ten year old Islay”. Rather clever, don’t you think?

The Aerolite Lyndsay 10 YO has been matured in a mixture of bourbon barrels and Spanish oak sherry quarter casks.

You can buy the Aerolite Lyndsay 10 YO in Norway at NOK 650 (11546201), and in the UK at around GBP 40.

Nose: The first thing I notice is a flinty, mineral note, that I normally find in Ledaig (peated Tobermory), but that’s the wrong island. Salty and a little rugged. Smoky and peaty - but not a whole lot - this would not scare away those that are sceptical of peated whisky. Chocolate and hints of citrus. With time wet driftwood smoking away. Also hints of well worn leather. A tad sour.

Taste: Medium body and medium peat level. Sugary sweet and wet driftwood ashes. Bitter-ish wood smoke. Chocolate and vanilla. Hints of oakiness.

Finish: Medium long finish. Continues as it started. Now with added pepper, ginger and citrus. a little more oaky now. Green notes right at the end.

Comment: A polite and tempered introduction to peated Islay whisky.
