Aberlour A'bunadh batch #47
Aberlour A'bunadh batch #47, NAS, 60,7 %
Aberlour A'bunadh has matured in sherry butts. It is a no age statement (NAS) whisky. A'bunadh means 'the original' in Gaelic. The whisky is made using only traditional methods and it is bottled at cask strength. Personally I prefer cask strength whiskies, which I think brings additional flavour and complexity to the whisky.
This batch of Aberlour A'bunadh is not available in Norway since it is above 60 % ABV, which is the maximum limit for legal alcohol in Norway. I am not sure which batch is available in Sweden since Systembolaget does not specify batch number except from the picture of the bottle which says batch #28. I doubt that is correct. Well, anyway Aberlour A'bunadh batch #unknown is available for SEK 629 (item number 445).
Nose (23/25): Such a lovely nose! Actually a lot of chocolate mixed with orange peel. Really smooth. Some mint makes it fresh after a while in the glass. And of course there are lots of figs and prunes and peaches as well. This is really a sherry bomb. With some water added, I think I detected some sulfur.
Taste (23/25): Full and complex. A bit sweet, but no chocolate. Just the lovely taste of figs and dates, and some orange here as well.
Finish (24/25): A lot of dark chocolate and some orange. Not too dry though. Just perfect. The aftertaste is lingering...wow! It almost can not get any better than this!
Balance (23/25): This is the best batch of A'bunadh I have ever tasted. Especially the finish was perfect. I added a few drops of water after a while. I don't think that improved the smell, but it brought chocolate to the taste.
