Aberargie Inaugural
Aberargie Inaugural, 7 YO, 48.2%
Aberargie Distillery is a Lowland distillery that started production in 2017. The distillery is owned by the Morrison family, previous owners of Bowmore, Glen Garioch and Auchentoshan through Morrison Bowmore Distillers (a company they sold to Suntory in 1994).
I love their motto (see website):
“All in good time, in our own way, under one roof. All for the love of whisky.”
This is their very first single malt whisky release. The mashbill is 48% Laureate barley and 52% Golden Promise barley. Matured in a combination of ex-sherry casks and 1st fill ex-bourbon barrels.
The Aberargie Inaugural will be available in Norway shortly at NOK 989 (20392401).
Nose: Fruity and vibrant with plenty of apples. Evokes late spring warmth, joined by caramel and malt. With time it deepens into warm fudge, butterscotch and creamy vanilla.
Taste: Full bodied. White and black pepper provide lift over a fruity base. A faint bitterness appears first, think slightly underripe orchard fruits or bitter pear, before malt-flavoured hard candy sweetness follows.
Finish: Medium to long. Creamier and more rounded now, showing tempered fruity sweetness with caramel and a hint of chocolate.
Comment: Classic, comforting old-school style.
