Glenlivet 21 YO Archive

Glenlivet 21 YO Archive, 43 %

The Glenlivet 21 YO Archive as first released around 20 years ago (correct me if I am wrong). New batches has been released more or less annually since then.

I have now tried the latest batch (Batch 0121T), which was bottled 2021-06-17. Back in 2013 guest blogger Kjell Ove reviewed batch 0513M here on Whisky Saga (see review).

This whisky has been matured in a combination of “American oak and ex-Sherry oak” (source).

The Glenlivet 21 YO Archive is available in Norway at NOK 1519 (12788001). It appears to already be sold out most places, and it did sell for close to GBP 200, so fairly decent price here in Norway then.

Nose: A rich, deep, and warm nose. Tempered fruitiness, sun warmed leather, sandalwood and earthy cinnamon. With time more exotic spices playing in the background. Creamy vanilla and notes of floral honey.

Taste: Medium body. Pepper, dry cinnamon stick, and cocoa nibs. Hints of toasted oak.

Finish: Long finish. Creamy vanilla with a hint of lemon zest. Earthy and somewhat dry notes of cinnamon still, also nutmeg and crushed peanut shells. Mild oakiness but no astringency really.

Comment: A refined and distinguished whisky to be savoured in front of an open fire.

Score 89/100
