Fary Lochan Smoke & Sherry Batch #1

Fary Lochan Smoke & Sherry Batch #1, 7 YO, 58.3 %

This release from Fary Lochan, Denmark, was distilled October 2013, and bottled December 2020. All in all they bottled 386 bottles (50 cl) and 1000 miniatures (5 cl).

The Fary Lochan Smoke & Sherry Batch #1 was initially matured for 5 years and 8 months in two 1st fill ex-bourbon barrels, then finished for 18 months in a single 2nd fill ex-Oloroso sherry hogshead.

A combination of the recipes “Forår” and “Vinter” were used in the production.

Nose: Soft wood smoke and dried fruits. A sublime chocolate mousse served with a juicy cherry on top. Creamy, smoky, earthy vanilla beans. Softly floral.

Taste: Full bodied and then some. The smokiness arrives as a friendly smack on the cheek, followed by a kiss of chocolate, soot, wood smoke dried fruits. Somewhat spicy.

Finish: Medium long finish. More floral now. The smokiness is still clearly present - dark, smoky chocolate. Dried fruits.

Comment: Oooh, this is nice. Nettle smoked whisky is definitely a thing!

Score 87/100
