Radico Khaitan was founded in 1943. This company owns five distilleries in India, and produce a host of products. One product is this, the Rampur Indian Single Malt. This whisky is produced in Uttar Pradesh near the Himalayas.

This is the first single malt released by the distillery, although they have produced whisky for about 25 years. I assume this means they have produced for various blended whiskies previously.

The Rampur Indian Single Malt has been made from local, Indian barley and matured in bourbon casks.

You can buy this product in Sweden at SEK 499 (56901), or in the UK at around GBP 45.

Nose: Strawberries, orchard fruits and vanilla. Quite mild in character. Noticeable alcohol on the nose.

Taste: Medium body. Tempered spiciness. A bit chewy. No smoke but I still get the notion of fruity ashes. Lots of citrus. A touch bitter.

Finish: Medium long finish. Light and fruity .- grape juice with a dash of citrus. Bitter lemon and orange marmalade.

Comments: Not at all on level with Amrut and Paul John, both also from India.
