Braunstein 11:2

Time now for yet another Nordic Whisky. This time we go back to Braunstein in Denmark. I reviewed the Baunstein 11:1 a few weeks back, and here we have Braunstein 11:2, released the same year (2011).

The Braunstein 11:2 is a lightly peated release. It has been matured in bourbon casks and fresh American oak casks.

It is still possible to order the Braunstein 11:2 from the distillery's own online shop. The price is DKK 795.

Nose (21/25): Quite sweet, with the initial wave of aromas being vanilla and white sugar. There is a mild oak influence here, and some spiciness. Mildly creamy on the nose, which I would attribute to the fresh American oak. It's a bit cool on the nose, and I find traces of something not quite smoky, but rather like charred oak.

Taste (21/25): Spicy and sweet. Pepper and slightly burnt caramel. Vanilla and fruit drops. The mouthfeel is a bit creamy, picking up the notes found on the nose.

Finish (21/25): Caramel, burnt toast, demerara sugar, and sweet fruit drops covered with powdered sugar. Medium long, and it ends on a very nice and light note.

Balance (21/25): Bordering on having too much oak influence, but stays on the right side of said border. Nice bourbon character, but I am having some trouble finding the distillery character here. Anyways, it's a fine dram.

Score (84/100)
