Isle of Lime Svaide Shareholders Edition II, 3 YO, 47 %

I have now tried the second shareholders release from Isle of Lime, Gotland Whisky. The Isle of Lime Svaide Shareholders Edition II has been matured in five 200 litre ex-bourbon casks. Two of these are 2nd fill casks and have also previously held Laphroaig whisky. In addition 11 American oak 96 litre casks were used; three heavy toast, one medium+ toast, six medium toast, and one charred (details here).

This whisky is just 3 years old. The total outturn was 4700 bottles. 4500 of there were numbered and sold to shareholders, and the remaining 200 were unnumbered and labelled 'Ambassador'.

Nose: Surprisingly deep fruitiness. Hints of toasted oak, and maybe a whiff of smoke? White pepper and soft oakiness - wet planks mainly. Light notes of citrus appear gradually. I like the freshness here.

Taste: Creamy and soft mouthfeel. Milk chocolate, hints of coffee and toasted oak. The citrus is very shy, but does appear in the background. The light freshness follows through from the nose. Very pleasant.

Finish: Medium long finish. Very clean and fresh all the way through.

Comments: Impressive, young effort from Isle of Lime. Just three years still? Looking forward to what is to come.

Score (84/100)
