Sagamore Spirit Straight Rye Whiskey

Sagamore Spirit Straight Rye Whiskey, NAS, 41.5 %

My bottle says Batch 9AI, and I purchased this a couple of years ago.

The back label states the following:

“ Aged in new charred oak barrels. Distilled in Indiana, Bottled by Sagamore Spirit, Baltimore, MD”

On their website I also find the following:

“Each one of our products is proofed with pure, limestone-filtered water from our Spring House built in 1909. It's why each bottle bears a special 1909 marker.”

So this is a sourced whiskey, but watered down with local Baltimore water.

I also find this proof of them actually having started distilling their own whiskey and having released some of their own product:

“We launched our first Maryland Distilled Bottled in Bond Straight Rye Whiskey in November 2021.”

Nose: Big strawberry notes. Fresh strawberries as well as sweet strawberry jam. Then I’m hit with peppery notes, hints of toasted oak and vanilla. It is quite sweet. With time it also takes on a slight green touch.

Taste: Medium body. Dry and very peppery up front. Then peppery and sweet. It mellows out and softens up, becoming more juicy.

Finish: Medium long finish. Peppery soot and spicy ginger notes now.

Comment: I quite enjoyed this.

Score 85/100
