I have a soft spot for Oban, without quite knowing why. It is a very charming little distillery, that’s for sure. Here’s a brand new bottling for Diageo’s Special Releases 2022. This 10 YO has been most likely been matured in ex-bourbon casks. What we know for sure is that it has received a finish in ex-sherry and ex-amontillado casks.

The Oban 10 YO (Special Releases 2022) will be available in Norway from next week at NOK 1350 (14979801).

Nose: Strawberry and vanilla ice cream. Caramel swirls. Cinnamon buns in the background.

Taste: Medium body. Somewhat dry and rather more spicy than anticipated from the nose. There’s toasted oak, chili, menthol and more menthol and white pepper.

Finish: Medium to long finish. The menthol and now also malty notes do dominate. Green finish.

Comment: I wanted this to be even better.
