Heaven’s Door Straight Rye Whiskey

Heaven’s Door Straight Rye Whiskey, NAS, 43 %

heavens-door-straight-rye.jpg

This is Bob Dylan’s brand. Heaven’s Door Whiskey is sourced from various distilleries and then blended and bottled.

The mashbill for Heaven’s Door Straight Rye Whiskey includes 74 % rye. This is a straight rye, so matured for a minimum of two years. In this case the Vinmonopolet specified that they wanted products that had been matured for a minimum of four years. If this is even older, I do not know.

The product is produced by Spirits Investment Partnership, who has specialised in this type of brands. The Heaven’s Door Straight Rye Whiskey has been finished in French Vosges oak casks.

You can purchase the Heaven’s Door Straight Rye Whiskey in Norway starting March 5 at NOK 680 (12588801).

Nose: Somewhat green is my first impression. Softly perfumed and floral. Appears quite rich and a bit dark. Citrus in the background.

Taste: Medium body or a bit slimmer than that perhaps. Again somewhat green. Sweet, oaky, softly bitter. Pepper and honey n the background.

Finish: Medium long finish. Slowly more peppery. Dry. Lovely peppery notes towards the end, the rye finally shining through. Toasted oak as well, lifting the whole experience a fair bit.

Comment: Starts slow, but has a strong finish.
