Hanyu 1988 Ichiro's Malt Three of Diamonds, 19 YO, 56 %

Hanyu 1988 Ichiro's Malt Three of DiamondsThis is my last review of a whisky in the Card Series from Ichiro's Malt for a while. Simply because I do not expect to come across any more of these in the short term. They are becoming very rare. You can see my other reviews of whiskies in this series here.

The Hanyu 1988 Ichiro's Malt Three of Diamonds was initially matured in an unspecified hogshead, and then received a finish in an ex-bourbon barrel (cask #9417). The total outturn was 273 bottles.

It appears there are no bottles of the Hanyu 1988 Ichiro's Malt Three of Diamonds available to buy online right now.

Nose (23/25): Lots of rich and sweet aromas right off the bat here! Vanilla and bourbon-like sweetness, soft spices, red berries and fresh, red fruit.

Taste (22/25): Rich and warm. Thick and savoury mouthfeel. Honey-like. Caramel, fudge, black and white pepper, and thick caramel sauce. There's a touch of dryness.

Finish (21/25): Fizzy! Soft spices, and hints of peppermint and other fresh herbs. Light wood notes, still a touch dry.

Balance (22/25): Well-balanced and complex.

Score (88/100)
