Established in 1753 Hampden Estate is one of the world’s oldest rum distilleries. They use a very long fermentation in their production; between 8 and 15 days.

Nose: Delicately balanced fruitiness, funkiness and sweetness. I can dig this, man. Sugar cane, grilled banana leaves, rich caramel sauce, white pepper and vanilla. I just love the tempered and moderately sweet funkiness here. With time more orchard fruits. Delightful and mellow.

Taste: Medium body. More peppery notes on the palate. Still fruity, and mildly funky. Burnt caramel, coffee, ginger, and earthy vanilla.

Finish: Short to medium finish. Not very sweet at all on the finish, but actually comes across as richer towards the end. Mild oakiness. Demerara sugar flavoured chewing gum.

Comment: The nose does promise more than the palate can deliver, but it is still a rock solid delivery!
