Glen Elgin 1995 19 YO 'Stag beetle' Liquid ArtThis is my very first experience with the independent bottler Liquid Art. And I am tasting their very first release, a 19 YO Glen Elgin.

I have tasted a few Glen Elgins before and have found all of them to be 'good' or 'very good', aged from 12 to 37 years. You can read about the last two I tasted in this article from the last meeting in The Ladies' Share.

Todays whisky was distilled in 1995 and bottled in 2014. It has spent 19 years on cask. Liquid Art released 94 bottles.

The whisky is unfortunately not available in Norway or Sweden.

Nose (22/25): A lot of berries at first, raspberries. Then more sweetness is added with vanilla and cream. After a while I found more fresh and fruity notes; pineapple, lemon and lime. In the end there was some oakiness and the smell of fizzy washing up liquid. An interesting nose - in a good way!

Taste (22/25): The taste was more sweet than the nose. Caramel and fruitiness. I found baked apples and pineapples. Quite fresh, with some eucalyptus notes.

Finish (20/25): A peppery finish with a lot of chili. A touch of fruitiness. Quite short. Metallic notes in the end made me set the score lower than the taste.

Balance (21/25): This was a fresh, sweet and spicy Glen Elgin. Quite complex considering all the associations I get on nose and taste. I am looking forward to taste more whiskies from Liquid Art!

Score (85/100)
