Dogjani Gin

Dogjani Gin, 44 %

I travel to Albania from time to time. My dear wife is Albanian, and it is a lovely country to visit. Having an above average interest in all things spirits I was of course delighted when I came across this product last summer.

This is the first ever Albanian dry gin, produced by Kantina Dogjani in Kukës, Albania. Kantina Dogjani is a winery and distillery which produces different types of wines, many variants of raki and this dry gin.

The main botanicals used making the Dogjani gin include juniper, sage and rosemary.

Nose: Mild, clean and very approachable. Juniper is first to appear, closely followed by citrus. Then a bouquet of green herbs; basil and sage first and foremost. With time also vanilla and Wilhelmina mints (“Wilhelmina Pepermunt”).

Taste: Pleasant mouthfeel and medium body. White pepper and citrus up front. Almost creamy in character. Vanilla and peppermint.

Finish: Medium long finish. Lightly fruity. Lots of peppermint now, then a wave of green herbs towards the end.

Comment: Refreshing!

Score 84/100

PS! Kantina Dogjani do not have a website, as far as I know. But you can find them on Facebook.
