Bunnahabhain Moine 8 YO Cask #3657 Hand Filled Exclusive

The whisky under review today is an exclusive you can only get at the distillery. In this case we are talking Bunnahabhain Distillery on Islay. This is probably my favourite distillery on Islay, although it is very hard to choose just one favourite!

The bottle of Bunnahabhain Moine 8 YO Cask #3657 Hand Filled Exclusive  I got my hands on, thanks to a very good friend, was filled on 2016-09-16. This is a whisky that has been matured in a 1st fill Oloroso sherry cask. That's about all we know. But I'm thinking we do not really need to know more than that. The important thing here is whether the whisky is good, or not. So let's check!

Nose: Rich like Scrooge McDuck and deep as the Mariana Trench! Delightful, rich sherry notes. Brown sugar, coffee beans, dark chocolate, apricots, raisins, strong tea, vanilla, soft leather, malt and the crust of fresh baked bread. Utterly delightful!

Taste: Silky smooth and full-bodied mouthfeel. Much the same as I found on the nose, but with even more punch to it. It has a lovely texture after the initial smoothness - almost like ashes, but not smoky, well not really, more dark chocolate and cocoa. Cinnamon sticks, brown sugar, a touch of butter (the real stuff - not the fake, so-called 'healthy' alternatives).

Finish: Medium to long finish. Dries up a little bit, but that's fine. The landing is fluffy soft and sugary sweet.

Comments: A wonderful sherry bomb with lots of character. A'bunadh, can you hear me? You should feel the pressure!
