Rock Oyster

Rock Oyster

Rock Oyster is the Island whisky in the Remarkable Regional Malts series of blended malts from independent bottler Douglas Laing. Rock Oyster joins Big Peat (Islay), Scallywag (Speyside), and Timorous Beastie (Highlands). They will soon be followed by a Lowland expression as well.

Rock Oyster consists of single malt whiskies from the islands of Arran, Jura, Orkney and Islay.

You can purchase the Rock Oyster in Norway at NOK 599 (1702501), in Sweden at SEK 489 (8506701), and online in the UK at around GBP 32.

Nose (21/25): Rich and full on the nose. Salt and minerals, like a rocky beach forever tormented by the wild and salty sea. There is some slightly sour wood smoke here as well - someone trying to get a fire burning with wet driftwood near our rocky beach. I also find hints of mustard seeds, summer fruits and vanilla. It is a bit hard to grasp this one.

Taste (21/25): Still rich, and with a nice mouthfeel. Pepper, honey, sugar, sea-salt, fresh apples and wet rocks.

Finish (20/25): A bit short on the finish - it tapers off a bit too quickly for me. The peat and wood smoke is back, again slightly sour - wet driftwood slowly catching fire.

Balance (20/25): A strange one. Not my favorite in this product line, but a decent dram by all means.

Score (82/100)
