Ensign Red Canadian Whisky

When I was out shopping for new whisky/bourbon/rye the other day, I came across the Ensign Red Canadian Whisky. I should note that I am currently in California for work.

I had never seen this particular whisky before, and thus my interest was piqued. There is no information available online on who produces this whisky, but it is bottled by K. D. Distilling Company in Lousville, Kentucky. It does state 'Product of Canada' on the bottle. From what I have gathered, this product is exclusive to Totalwine (and possibly some other stores) in the US. It appears to have been launched in September 2015.

You can buy the Ensign Red Canadian Whisky online in the US at USD 16.50.

Nose (20/25): Not bad at all! Strawberries, vanilla, mild oakiness, and soft spices. Quite sweet - it reminds me of maple syrup.

Taste (18/25): Sweet and spicy. Lots of pepper, ginger and nutmeg. Red berries. A bit nutty. The mouthfeel is really confusing - it feels watery and a bit creamy at the same time. Slight perfume character.

Finish (17/25): Relatively short, and still very sweet. Honey, vanilla, maple syrup and burnt caramel.

Balance (18/25): A decent dram, I would say. Try it over ice on a hot day.

Score (73/100)
