Our friends in the Netherlands, Zuidam Distillers, do not only make fine single malt. They also produce rye whisky. Today I’m taking a closer look at the Millstone 92 Rye Whisky. The name is derived from the ABV of 92 American proof, which equals 46 %.

I am told the mashbill for this product is 51 % unmalted rye and 49 % malted rye.

Nose: Mild and sweet, with a hint of vegetables and pepper. With time it opens more up and there’s caramel, toasted oak and rye sweetness.

Taste: Medium body and more then medium sweetness. A bit of pepper on the palate as well, but not too much. The sweetness really deepens sip by sip. Vanilla and mixed spices.

Finish: Medium long. Remains a bit peppery. Mild fruitiness and vanilla.

Comment: A solid rye that delivers.
