Highland Queen 1561 30 YO

This is a rather old blended whisky. The Highland Queen 1561 30 YO is was sold at a strangely low price in Norway (the price has now been more than doubled, but it is still cheaper than in the UK).

The "1561" in the title refers to Mary Queen of Scots, whom the brand "Highland Queen" is named after. That's about all I know of this blend.

You can buy the Highland Queen 1561 30 YO in Norway at NOK 429 950 (8357101).

Nose: Cool and coldly fruity at first sniff - and no, there's no temperature issue here, just me being weird. Banana, vanilla ice cream, a dusty attic, and stacks of old papers. Apples, pears, canned fruit in simple syrup. Hints of oak and chocolate.

Taste: Not much in the way of body here. White pepper, bitter-ish oak. Mild fruitiness and again some chocolate. All flavors are weak and seem watered down.

Finish: Medium long finish. It is rather watery and thin all the way. Mild caramel, and hints of apples and green pears.

Comments: I feel underwhelmed. I do not quite see the point of bringing out a 30 YO variant when it comes across as unremarkable as this. Maybe the true value in this dram, is in leaving it on the shelf.
