Here's an old release in the Private Edition series from Glenmorangie. I recently reviewed the latest expression, the Glenmorangie Milsean Private Edition. The Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX Private Edition was released back in 2009. It has been matured in American white oak, with a finish in Pedro Ximenez (PX) sherry casks.

Nose: Rich and lovely PX nose! I really dig this! I do admit to having a soft spot for PX sherry. Yes, I admit it, I do drink sherry! I urge you all to try it. It can be real revelation, and certainly a learning experience. Anyways... Raisins, dates, figs, plums, rich caramel, and hints of maple syrup. The sweetness is just spot on - not too heavy, not too light.

Taste: Rich and honey like mouthfeel. Dark sweetness. The PX influence is heavy on the palate as well. Massive amounts of raisins, plums and figs. Milk chocolate as well.

Finish: Medium to long finish. The dark and heavy sweetness lingers for quite some time. No further development - and that was not anticipated either. What could ever penetrate through this?

Comments: Lovely nose, but on the palate a tad too much of the good stuff maybe...
