Craigellachie 13 YO Speyside Single Malt, 46 %

Craigellachie 13 YO Speyside Single MaltThe Craigellachie 13 YO Speyside Single Malt was one of three official Craigellachie bottlings released back in 2014. Up until that point in time it had been hard to come across single malt whisky from this distillery.

You can buy the Craigellachie 13 YO Speyside Single Malt in Norway at NOK 599 (6969201), starting Friday November 3, 2017. It has been available before, but is now re-launched with a wider distribution. You can also get it in Sweden at SEK 499 (48801).

Nose: Oak, caramel and a little something in the back that feels slightly off-ish or sour. Fruity with ripe banana and tinned pears. After a few minutes in the glass (my dram was from a freshly opened bottle), the little off-note is completely gone. It continues to improve with time, becoming fuller and richer in fruitiness and sweetness.

Taste: Medium body. Banana still the primary fruit. Spices dancing about in an orderly fashion. A slight edge to the taste - not really bitter, but certainly a bit oaky - youngish and aggressive oak.

Finish: Medium long finish. Sweet and relatively rich all the way. Creamy milk chocolate, caramel and hints of coconut.

Comments: We managed to find an understanding after a few minutes, we got the balance right.
