Tomatin Legacy, NAS, 43 %

Tomatin LegacyI have not tasted many whiskies from Tomatin distillery yet. Actually it has only been five so far, and none of them are distillery bottlings. About time then.

Recently I got a chance to taste Tomatin Legacy. The Legacy is a no age statement whisky. This will be the first NAS I taste from Tomatin.

Tomatin Legacy is not available at Vinmonopolet in Norway. But you can buy it at Systembolaget in Sweden for SEK 301 (item number 85545).

Nose (20/25): It was quite a complex smell. There was some chocolate confect - sweet but with som dark bitterness. Soon the smell evolved to a very young whisky; malt, grist, new make, and actually the smell from a wash back. So relatively young in character, but still quite complex. In the end came a whiff of citrus, just like from a three day fermented wash back.

Taste (19/25): Smooth at first, but then it turns dry almost at once. Mild spices and some caramel.

Finish (19/25): Woody at the end. Salty and metallic. Short finish.

Balance (20/25): This was not a bad whisky at all, even though the score ends below 80. It was average I would say. The nose was interesting.

Score (78/100)
