The Glenlivet XXV

The Glenlivet XXV

My husband and I attended Bergen International Whisky & Beer Festival 2015. Of course there are always a lot of new whiskies to taste at a festival. But this time I chose to taste one whisky from Glenlivets core range; Glenlivet XXV.

I have tasted quite a few Glenlivets, both distillery bottlings and independent bottlings. You can read my tastings notes on the 12 YO, the 15 YO, Nadurra and the 18 YO.

Well, today it is time to explore the 25 YO. This bottle is from batch No 0913A. The 25 YO from Glenlivet has a first fill Oloroso sherry cask finish.

Glenlivet XXV is available in Norway at NOK 1800 (item number 4994901). It is not available in Sweden.

Nose (21/25): Rich. Starts off with a lot of different fruits. A bit (too?) oaky. Then it became more spicy. I detected eucalyptus, cardamom and cinnamon.

Taste (23/25): Rich and complex. Fruity taste as well. I found dried apricots, fresh apricots and prunes. Chocolate. Very smooth and nice on the palate.

Finish (21/25): The aftertaste was sugary, syrupy, fruity, chocolaty and spicy.

Balance (22/25): In my opinion the Oloroso sherry cask finish was very obvious on the palate. Really nice and rich taste. I just loved the mix of fruit and chocolate.

Score (87/100)
