Super Nikka Whisky, NAS, 43 %
Another Nikka today. Last Wednesday I shared my tasting notes on Nikka Gold & Gold which is a blend.
Super Nikka Whisky is also a blend from Nikka Whisky. This is what the distillery says about the whisky:
One of Nikka’s classic brands, Super Nikka has been a top seller since it was put on the market in 1962. Its luxuriant aroma, gentle hints of peat and scent of aged sherry casks are all in harmony, and its flavor is smooth, rounded and well-balanced.
Opulent and gently peaty with the essence of aged sherry casks, this whisky goes down smooth with a well-rounded and balanced flavor.
Super Nikka Whisky is not available in Norway, but you can buy it in Sweden at SEK 551 (item number 85606).
Nose (18/25): Perfume and orange bitter at first. Then some more citrus. Quite uninteresting.
Taste (17/25): Perfume again. In addition it was fruity and spicy, but I could not narrow it down to which spices. Thin.
Finish (18/25): Metallic and dry in the end. Nut shell and not much more happening.
Balance (18/25): This was not a whisky to my taste. I did tried this one with a large ice ball. It became thin and dry and lost what little taste there was. Since the whisky already smelled like orange bitter, I added a couple of drops of an orange bitter. Actually that improved the whisky.
