Strathisla 1994 19 YO Chivas Brothers CS EditionI first heard of the Chivas Brothers Cask Strength Edition series a few years ago, but it was only earlier this year that I tried a whisky from this series for the first time. These whiskies are (exclusively?) sold at the distilleries owned by Chivas Brothers (again owned by Pernod Ricard). The distilleries include: Aberlour, Allt-A-Bhainne, Braeval, Glenallachie, Glen Keith, Glenlivet, Longmorn, Scapa, and Strathisla.

These whiskies are fairly reasonably priced, and the ones I have tried so far have been of very good quality.

OK, here goes - time to taste the Strathisla 1994 19 YO Chivas Brothers CS Edition.

Nose (23/25): Sweet and rich. Caramell and vanilla. After a few minutes I pick up soft, ripe fruits - bananas and apples in particular. It is a very nice nose.

Taste (22/25): Quite soft on the palate. Creamy and light. Taste of caramel and fruits.

Finish (22/25): King of Denmark hard candy (malt and licorice), ginger, and oaky spiciness. It is very clean and crisp.

Balance (22/25): A delightful dram. I will definitely be on the lookout for more whiskies in this series.

Score (89/100)
