Scapa 2000 14 YO Chivas Brothers CS Edition, 53,9 %

Scapa 2000 14 YO Chivas Brothers CS EditionThe Chivas Brothers is the company that owns Scapa Distillery, and a few other distilleries. They have a special bottling series called Chivas Brothers Cask Strength (CS) Edition. The expressions in this series are only available to buy if you visit one of these distilleries, although they all stock the full current range.

The Scapa 2000 14 YO Chivas Brothers CS Edition was distilled on 2000-02-28, and bottled on 2014-08-05. The casks used is not specified, but it is labelled with Batch SC 14 008. The retail sales price is about GBP 50.

Nose (22/25): Soft and salty, as the Scapa 16 YO, but this is a lot more complex. Mild perfume and a strange oakiness (not in a bad way). Quite fruity, with apples and coconut at the front. It has a light acidic note.

Taste (21/25): Warm and of medium richness. Pepper, camphor, coconut, salt and a dry, dark chocolate.

Finish (22/25): Continues just as it started, really. The finish is medium long and quite warm. The chocolate, coconut and camphor stay until the very end.

Balance (22/25): I really liked this one. It has a lot more character than the Scapa 16 YO. Perhaps they should consider changing the ABV on the 16 YO from the current 40 %?

Score (87/100)
